You may see plywood beneath a resilient floor where the approved system calls for that type of base; its face remains hidden, but the quality of that surface matters to the covering above. The exact sheet specification establishes its intended use, so the word plywood alone does not identify every property needed for a floor.

The timber layers are visible at the edge of a plywood sheet, while the broad face has its own grade and finish; you can have similar-looking sheets with different approved uses. What is flooring grade plywood

Plywood is a sheet material made from thin layers of timber bonded together; the grain direction changes between layers, which gives the board a different construction from a single piece of solid wood. A flooring grade product has stated qualities for its intended use beneath a covering.

You do not usually see the plywood after the floor is finished; its surface becomes part of the base for the next material, so the face quality matters alongside the sheet thickness. Different plywood grades are made for different purposes and are not automatically interchangeable.

A plywood layer can have a place in a prepared floor build where the chosen system permits it; the sheet forms a surface above the supporting base, with its own joints and edges below the decorative covering. That position gives it a different role from the floor finish itself.
