You do not see the adhesive in the finished room, but it is part of the fixed floor system. Different formulations have different working properties and approved uses. The floor covering and the base determine the type of bond needed beneath the surface you walk on.

Adhesives and different floor coverings

Carpet and vinyl have different backing constructions, so the adhesive requirements can differ even within one room; a textile backing has a different surface from the underside of a resilient vinyl product. Manufacturers name the materials that each adhesive is intended to bond.

Some products have a defined place within a wider flooring system, alongside a particular primer or smoothing layer; that relationship matters more than a similar pack colour or product name. You get the intended result from a compatible set of materials, rather than from adhesive strength considered on its own.
