Why choose wide plank laminate flooring?
Wider planks make a room feel more open, with fewer joins drawing the eye. They suit modern, Scandi and farmhouse interiors equally well, and they install faster than standard 145–180mm boards because each lay covers more ground. The trade-off: wider planks need a flatter subfloor, anything more than 3mm deviation over 2m and you’ll feel the bounce.
Three things to weigh up before you buy:
- Plank width — 190mm is the sweet spot for most rooms; 220–245mm for open-plan and large living spaces.
- Plank length — long planks (1.3m+) reduce the visual tiling effect
- Subfloor prep — self-levelling compound costs £15–25/m² installed and is essential under wide planks on uneven subfloors.
Our wide plank range covers Kronospan and Quick-Step in 7–12mm thicknesses.

What our customers say about us
Frequently Asked Questions
How wide is "wide plank" laminate?
Anything over 190mm is generally classed as wide plank. Extra-wide starts at 220mm. Standard laminate is 145–180mm.
Are wide planks more expensive?
Roughly 10–15% more per m² than standard widths, mostly because the boards use larger sheets. Our entry-level wide plank starts at £11.99/m².
Will wide plank flooring make my room look bigger or smaller?
Bigger. Fewer joins per metre means the eye reads the floor as a continuous surface, opening the space up.
Are 9-inch (≈230mm) planks too wide for a UK home?
Not at all, they’re standard in modern open-plan layouts. They do need a flat subfloor and gradual acclimation in the room before fitting.
Can wide plank laminate be used in a kitchen?
Yes, provided it’s AC4-rated and water-resistant. Several ranges here are rated for splash zones; check the spec.
What's the difference between wide plank laminate and engineered wood?
Engineered wood has a real timber top layer, costs 3–5× more, and needs careful upkeep. Laminate is a printed décor layer fused to HDF — far more scratch- and water-resistant.
