Avesso Classic Engineered Oak is a mid-range range of oak planks built to work in most rooms. All 36 products are engineered wood with a real oak veneer on a plywood base, which means they sit stable underfloor heating and won’t cup or crack as solid oak might. The range comes in natural and dark tones, with most planks finished in oil or lacquer to suit your look and how much wear the floor will take.

Avesso Classic oak suits bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, halls and offices. Engineered wood is thinner than solid oak but tougher than laminate, and these planks are all backed by a 25-year guarantee. If you want a real-wood floor that won’t buckle when the heating goes on, this is where to start.

Finishes and colours

Most planks come oiled or lacquered. Oiled wood soaks up the finish, letting the grain show and feel soft underfoot; lacquered planks get a plastic coat that’s easier to wipe clean and more scratch-resistant. A few are unfinished, so you can stain or oil them to match your home exactly. Natural oak leans warm and pale; dark oak is richer and deeper. Ash and smoked styles take the grain further, one lighter and one with char marks burnt into the wood to look aged.

Thickness, width and installation

Most planks are 14mm thick with a 3mm wear layer, which is typical for mid-range engineered oak and gives you room to sand and refinish if they scuff. Some options go thicker (15mm) or thinner (10mm), and a few come in extra width. Plank width ranges from 125mm to 190mm, so you can choose a finer look or a bolder, wider grain pattern.

Installation is tongue and groove on most lines, which locks plank to plank and needs fixing to the subfloor. Five products use click joints, which slot together without glue or nails and are faster to lay. Underlay is optional on most planks but required on five click-system boards. All work with underfloor heating, so warm floors are not off the table.

Choosing the right plank

Look at the wood grade. Most are rustic, which means visible knots and colour variation across each plank; a few are classic grade, which have tighter grain and more even tone if you want a calmer look. Bevelled edges are only on certain products, creating a subtle shadow line between planks to add depth.

If you’re fitting underfloor heating, check your subfloor type with the fitter before you order, as some planks work better on certain bases. Click systems are friendlier for DIY and rental properties because they’re easier to lift if you need to move them. Oiled finishes need resealing every few years but age beautifully; lacquered are hands-off and best for heavy traffic like busy kitchens and hallways.
