LVP FAQs
What is LVP flooring?
LVP floors consist of planks that are made up of layered vinyl, with a high-quality, high-fidelity image layer added to imitate other materials. The result is a resistant, comfortable, and versatile flooring option that can be used in a variety of scenarios. Read our plank flooring guide for more information on the ins-and-outs of LVP.
What’s the difference between LVP vs LVT?
Basically, there’s no difference between LVP and LVT. Luxury Vinyl Planks are (you guessed it) largely designed to look like planks of wood, while Luxury Vinyl Tiles may be designed to emulate tiles – but the terms have become pretty interchangeable, and these days, LVT might be designed to look like wood or like stone tiles.
Is LVP better than laminate?
Laminate and luxury vinyl planks both have their advantages, and the choice depends on your preferences. Like laminate, you can fit your LVT with underfloor heating, but the latter is typically more realistic looking and resistant to scratching. Meanwhile, laminate tends to be more cost-effective and easier to fit.
Is LVP waterproof?
While only certain makes of LVP flooring are fully waterproof, most tend to be at least resistant to water. This means that long-term exposure can cause damage, but the occasional splash is nothing to worry about.
Do I need underlay for LVP flooring?
If you’re looking to lay LVP flooring, you’ll need to fit your room with underlay first to ensure an even fit. Without one, your vinyl floors are likely to come loose and become damaged, possibly even creating gaps between your planks.
Is LVP easy to clean?
LVP floors require regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and debris, but are usually very low maintenance compared to other flooring materials. You can remove stains from vinyl flooring using a damp mop and a compatible cleaner, or DIY methods in a pinch.
