LVT FAQs
What is LVT flooring?
LVT flooring is a flooring material popular for its durability and great looks. It’s made of several layers of PVC, topped with a realistic image layer and a protective wear layer to prevent damage. You can read our ultimate LVT flooring guide for all you need to know about luxury vinyl floors.
Why choose LVT?
There are a number of flooring materials on the market today, so why is LVT so popular? The realistic image layer of LVT makes it a cost-effective way of emulating the looks of wood or stone, but its longevity, resistance against scratches and scuffs, and versatility around the house make it an especially beloved choice.
How to lay LVT flooring
Different types of LVT flooring will need to be installed in different ways. Glue-down LVT needs to be attached to the subfloor of your room with a special adhesive, while click LVT is designed to click into place using locking mechanisms. Weigh up your options before attempting to lay LVT yourself, and call a professional if you need assistance.
How to cut LVT flooring
You can buy specialised vinyl cutters to trim your LVT down to size, or simply use a utility knife or saw. Measure where you’ll need to make a cut on your LVT, and mark a line across the chosen section with a pencil. Then, ensuring you make a clean, controlled cut, use your chosen tool to score a line in your plank and snap it in two using both hands.
How to clean LVT flooring
When cleaning your LVT floor, make sure to vacuum or sweep any dirt or debris first. Then, use a suitable vinyl cleaner and a damp mop, before leaving your flooring to air dry. You can remove tougher stains using household methods like a baking soda and vinegar solution, but be sure not to scrub too hard.
Can you steam clean LVT flooring?
High moisture and heat levels can warp your luxury vinyl tiles, so we typically recommend that you don’t steam clean your LVT flooring. Warping can lead to uneven floors and damage over time, so you should practice caution to avoid costly repairs or replacements.
Is LVT better than laminate?
Laminate tends to be a more cost-effective option than LVT, but our luxury vinyl flooring offers superior durability and a more realistic appearance. Plus, while laminate is usually porous and affected by moisture damage, LVT is available in waterproof options, which are better suited to areas such as bathrooms.
Is LVT better than carpet?
Carpet offers a warm, soft surface compared to the hardness of LVT flooring, but its texture and poor moisture resistance make it unfit for use in bathrooms and kitchens. LVT is a more versatile flooring choice, which requires less heavy maintenance and can be cleaned easily without specialist tools.
