How do I determine the amount of flooring I need for my space?

Determining the right amount of flooring for your space is a crucial step in any home improvement project. At Flooring King, we've got you covered with a simple guide to help you calculate the exact amount you need: Measure Your Space: Begin by measuring the length and width of the room. For irregularly shaped rooms, divide them into smaller, more manageable sections. Add Extra for Wastage: It's wise to account for wastage during installation. Depending on the complexity of your layout, add an extra 5-10% to your total square footage to accommodate cuts and unforeseen adjustments. Consider Pattern Matching: If your chosen flooring has a pattern or needs to be matched, consult with our experts at Flooring King to determine the extra amount required for a seamless look. Factor in Room Shape: Different room shapes may result in varying amounts of wastage. Take into consideration any alcoves, closets, or irregular corners that may affect your calculations. Altro ContraX in Slate Grey is a hardwearing commercial vinyl sheet that brings a neat, speckled finish to kitchens, bathrooms and busy commercial spaces. The slate grey tone sits neutral and modern, suiting both contemporary and practical settings without fuss. You get a real vinyl look that doesn’t demand the upkeep of natural materials.

This is PVC through and through. A 2mm sheet sits flat and solid underfoot. The backing is PVC as well, so there’s no settling or movement once it’s down. It comes in 2m roll widths and 20m lengths, making it straightforward to cover larger areas in one piece. The speckled pattern hides marks and wear well, which is exactly what busy spaces need.

The standout feature is grip. Altro ContraX rates R10 for anti-slip, which means wet kitchens and bathrooms stay safe. You’ll get confident footing even when floors are damp or soapy. Sound insulation sits at 4dB, so it cushions footfall noise without bulk.

Where it works

Kitchens and WCs
Bathrooms
Commercial environments
Any room where water splash or spillage is likely

The material is fully waterproof, so leaks or standing water don’t cause swelling or damage. Use classification of Class 34 tells you it’s built for medium to heavy commercial wear.

Installation and heating

You glue this straight down to a solid, level subfloor. Underlay isn’t required, which cuts both cost and prep time. If you have underfloor heating, Altro ContraX works with it, so you can warm your space without risk to the flooring.

Warranty and care

A 5-year commercial warranty covers normal use, so you have real peace of mind. Looking after it is simple: sweep or vacuum regularly to clear grit, then mop with warm water and a mild cleaner. The speckled finish and robust surface take daily traffic and clean-up routines without fading or staining.

If you’re specifying vinyl for a commercial kitchen, busy bathroom or high-traffic WC, Altro ContraX and the broader Commercial Vinyl Flooring range deliver safety, durability and low fuss in one product.
